Question!

So, since I'm thinking about it, is it allowed like for pet-animals to have young? Like players' cats/dogs having kits/pups? And if so, how would that be handled?

I'm thinking Kittenph will have her own kittens at some point, to further distress Hummiph - I don't intend for Hummiph to keep them, but I'm not entirely sure how to go about it on this site.

As I don't think the Pohonians have the appropriate equipment to, err, spay/neuter their furry friends I'm pretty sure litters are inevitable. It'd be pretty awesome if it were an open adoption - probably with some limitations so that people have kittens/puppies coming out the wazoo with no realistic means of caring for them.

Maybe adoption could be set at a certain amount of diasks/posts required before adoption is allowed?

Fox and I have talked, mind you, casually, about having Midas and Lady have a very strange litter of kittens together. I know I asked Bre about it, but I cannot remember what she said. I think we could distribute the kittens, maybe if the players who wanted them paid for them? I wish I could recall...

Well, originally I thought they could just be distributed freely, but then again. They still count as pets, and I don't know if Bre would be down with giving away pets. It might even be interesting to have a little contest going with puppies/kittens as prizes.

A contest might be interesting. Or yeah, a certain post count or maybe a discounted price in the store? I donno. Or I could just say they go to NPCs, if it's no-go. >> Since Ma'ro does have an NPC uncle at the Eyrie, could dump them onto him. But that's less fun.

Potentially, you could split it up so that if it's a humongous litter some of it goes to an NPC, and just save a couple to give as prizes. We don't have anything like fire-lizards here, so it's about the closest equivalent?

Probably 3-6 kittens. I think 4's the average. Might steal from Zeis and set up some random rolls for coat colors/patterns. >>

Ooh, I want to see what they turn out like! Maybe I'll enter if it doesn't require me having to draw something, Diana would probably like a companion.

I know we were talking about distributing them and then keeping some.
So really, if both involved cat owners took a kitten a piece--which they may not do, there would be like only a kitten or two to distribute.

Also, I know it's been mentioned, but I do have a male cat floating around, if we needed a father. I don't know how many cats we currently have. I mean, I would guess there would be lots of NPCs as well.

Referring back to my comment on lack of spaying/neutering, I'm sure there are quite a few cats stalking around. They proliferate with abandon under most circumstances. And they're probably kept as useful pest deterrents, too.

So you're thinking that some of the kittens will already be dibbed on? Hm, that does cut the number quite a bit, and would make it more of a prize to win/earn/buy/steal one. All those shady types are just as vulnerable to cuteness.

Well, I think the players of the original cat parents could each get a kitten, I believe. But they would not have to, but could. I'm not sure, though.

I honestly hadn't thought of it, but I don't see any problem with them opting to take one of the kittens. Then again, would they have to pay for their pet or would it be free for them?

I want Ivory to have puppies. That would be cool.

But that's beside the point. I like the idea of contests, but I also like the buying the pups/kits. If Ivory had a litter, for example. Xo'li would NOT want mini-Ivory's, so he'd sell them/adopt them out for a price. So, whoever wants whatever mongrel(s) she produce(s) could spend diasks OOC, and have their character pay for them IC. But that's just my little two cents on it, and has probably already been mentioned. ^^;

Four kitten is a lot. I don't know where yo' been. That's the upper end of what could happen. Giant litters can occur, but they aren't common. One to three is more likely, two being the average with possible stillborns. Anyway, the babies would be up to the players, though the staff may come in and put their admin foot in your face if you do something ridiculous with them (giving NPCs, at least one or two, or active players with an appropriate characters are good).

I don't think anyone intended to do something ridiculous, so I think the comment about putting a 'foot in our face' is unnecessary, we're all essentially adults here. That aside, I can see paying a small fee for them. It'd give us something to spend excess diasks on.
