Name: Darlya
Age: 19
Gender:
this is a bit complicated… he was born male and retains his sex but he was raised female (for simplicities sake I’ll refer to my character with the male pronoun)
Sexuality: homosexual
Rank: Candidate, apprentice pâtissier
Location: Sayaie
Personality:
Darlya is the poster child of that cute girl you knew in high school – you know the one who seemed too good and too cute to be true with dozens of admirers buzzing around her like bees to a honeysuckle, yet somehow she was just seemed to be in a totally different league than everyone else? That’s Darlya.
He’s infectiously bubbly and cute, generally happy as well as friendly to most everyone he meets, flirts with most anything, and is the epitome of femininity; he’ll giggle and react to things in a flamboyant fashion, exceedingly coy and girly in all of his mannerisms. However, because of this, he is often seen as air-headed and shallow especially with his incessant need to seek approval from those around him and as a result he has a hard time saying “no.” Darlya strongly values friends and family whom come first in his book and he wants to always see the good in those that he cares about most. Sadly this often leads the poor boy to turn a willing blind eye to the more glaring and dangerous of vices (his ex-boyfriend and father being two perfect examples of this). It is also worth nothing that Darlya easily falls in love and as a result also easily has his heart broken. He acts happy and bubbly and in fact he really is but deep down in a place he rarely enjoys exploring he knows he is in fact very lonely and starved for attention.
Darlya is not the brightest crayon in the box, he won’t win any awards for his brains but he will always mean well and try to make those he loves proud of him. He does enjoy the life and work of a pastry chef but he secretly wants more out of his life – though he isn’t quite sure what that exactly means for him.
Appearance: Darlya stands at around 5’6 and because he is mildly haemophilic his family stressed his exemption from strenuous physical activity which leaves him with a small, slender and frail body size. His hair is a bright blond halo around his head, usually kept long and in bouncy curls around his face. Darlya’s facial features are thankfully rather feminine and attractive, what with high cheekbones, large smiling lips and big brown eyes normally seen on small puppy dogs. Oh! One musn’t forget his smile which manages to light up his whole face, lips pulled back in an unabashed teeth-revealing smile, his nose wrinkling up and his eyes shining. It’s really a sight to see. His nose is on the larger side but somehow it makes him all the more appealing and cute to many people. Darlya has a learned elegance and femininity taught to him by his ailing (and slightly insane) mother. His voice is relatively high for a male though it sounds somewhat forced, he isn’t familiar with his own voice having spoken like this since puberty began to steal the last vestiges of his adolescent girl’s voice.
Well, Darlyna is simply a whore for women’s fashion and whatever the planet’s type of female make-up is available which his seamstress mother undoubtedly influences, he also loves the various perfumes produced from the oils of flowers and usually sports a light bouquet.
Family:
Yorish (father – 49)
Jasmine (mother – 43)
Darlya (sister – DECEASED)
Pets:
none
History:
Darlya was not actually born Darlya but rather was born the male half in a set of male and female fraternal twins, his sister was named Darlya and she died very young. The pregnancy was very long and arduous for Darlyas frail mother, Jasmine, and she nearly died after giving birth to the twins prematurely and had to be hospitalized for many months afterwards. The exact circumstances of his sister’s death are unknown but it is believed that she was the weaker twin while Darlya was the dominant twin and managed to survive. His parents were distraught at losing the little girl they had both so wanted, his father became withdrawn and his already fragile mother began to slowly lose hold of her sanity. Losing a child is never easy. Somewhere along the way Yorish, his father, took it upon himself and changed his son into his daughter and raised him that way.
Darlya grew up being treated as a girl, dressing like a girl, acting like a girl, talking like a girl. His father owns a bakery/pastery shop where Darlya learned the tricks of the trade and discovered that he really enjoyed icing the cakes his father would make. Despite the switch Yorish had made it proved not to be an easy fix and although he treated Darlya like the daughter who died he remained cool towards him. Jasmine on the other hand, had always been a little funny in the head ever since Darlya could remember and she went along with this charade, most likely believing it to be the truth. Yorish discovered his child’s haemophilia when he was around 5 while he was teaching him to bake, Darlya cut himself and although it seemed like such a minor wound it kept bleeding and bleeding and bleeding seeming without end. Yorish rushed Darlya to the hospital days later where he was diagnosed with haemophilia, the doctor right then and there was suspicious of Darlya’s true sex. Fearing that he would be ratted out Yorish took Darlya and Jasmine and left, selling his shop and moving from Chydyn to Sayaie.
It was here in Sayaie where Darlya grew up, surrounded by the bustling city and all the wonders it has to hold, he made many friends and school and was seen as desirable by many boys and enviable to many girls. Finally getting some real attention Darlya easily fell in love with his suitors and had his heart broken on many occassions. His father, for obvious reasons, did not approve of Darlya’s little adolescent romances and sent him to an all-girl’s school, hoping to right things and keep himself and Darlya’s secret under wraps. It was here, while surrounded by budding girls in puberty that Darlya began to question himself, he wasn’t growing the same way the girls were. Amidst all of this Darlya was keeping a secret romance with a real playboy, the sort that chews up girls’ hearts and spits them out, he was a heartbreaker and Darlya found him irresistible. It would be Darlya’s first serious relationship, and it would end in disaster. When his boyfriend discovered Darlya’s true sex he veritably freaked out and began to violently abuse Darlya, many times Darlya ended up in the hospital with inexplicable and life-threatening abrasions. Though he was slowly dying at the hands of the one who claimed to have loved him Darlya stayed with him for many months before his boyfriend got tired of assaulting the poor confused boy and dropped him like a used hat. Confused and injured far deeper than the dark bruises he confronted his father and was finally given the truth.
From that day on Darlya is not sure where he stands with his father, with love, with his gender. He’s only known life as a girl but he wants to know what the life of a boy would feel like and part of him desires to try this but old habits die hard. He is slowly accepting his own male body and has even taken to referring to himself as a male. It isn’t hard to see that Yorish quietly blames Darlya for the death of his sister and in a way even Darlya blames himself.
Today Darlya works in his father’s pastry shop in Sayaie, though their relationship is strained Darlya tries his hardest to please his unmoving father.
Desired Color: I think he’d be fabulous with a rainbow! Just the same, we’ll both enjoy any color that would suit him best
Undesired Color: doesn’t matter
Reasoning: I think a rainbow's typical personality suits him and they may help him with his own personal issues. Somehow, I think a female would suit him best.
Injury/Mauling:free game – though maybe not too much… I don’t quite want him bleeding to death!
((if Darlya bonds I plan on having him change his appearance to reflect his new change. I'll update when/if that happens!))
