Name: Eleanor (or Lenore to those who become close to her)
Age: 35, summer solstice
Gender: female
Sexuality: bisexual (though she has no real interest in a relationship, at all)
Rank: field biologist, specializing in zoology
Location: She calls no one place home, she’s intent on moving and exploring.
Personality:
Eleanor is innately highly intelligent, scientifically well-learned and insatiably curious thanks to her scientifically inclined parents and, well, she’s apt to get herself into some real trouble while mentally pre-occupied with something she finds truly fascinating (nearly anything natural). Coupled with an intense thirst for knowledge Lenore is keen although blunt and shrewd, don’t expect this woman to sugarcoat something that needs to be said. While her straight-forward talk might seem rude to some she isn’t necessarily trying to be mean, just honest. Honesty is the best policy after all, isn’t it? Growing up as an only child she’s sufficiently independent and surprisingly competitive when it comes to her field and studies, being outshined will simply not do. She absolutely hates being shown up and his often seen as very haughty or proud because of this which makes making friends a bit difficult at times (not that she cares much). Her upbringing gives her a proper air of gentility when she is not out crawling among the bugs and wading through the muck of the world.
She is filled with many questions about the nature of this planet and is positively chaffs her to know that she cannot know everything she wants to know before her time on this planet ends.
Appearance:
Eleanor is around 5’9; her body frame is light and bony like a bird, however she is quite fit since her fieldwork demands a generous amount of physical activity and can keep a good hiking pace for hours, depending on the terrain. Her skin is light and apt to freckle with too much sun, springy deep auburn hair is cut short just below her shoulders and is most often found tied back into a small curly tail at the base of her neck leaving it easy to maintain and kept out of her face (she absolutely cannot stand hair in her face) but this is sometimes difficult when she is out for long stretches away from a proper facility for such hair necessities. Lenore’s facial features are chisel sharp with high aristocratic cheekbones, a small-ish nose and intensely expressive green eyes which seem to scowl most terribly with the deep angle of her eyebrows.
Clothing wise Lenore prefers comfortable and practical wear which serves her best out in the field, nothing fancy or elegant for this lady – she hates dresses as well as skirts and will not be caught dead in one or the other if she has anything to say about it. Slacks and trousers all the way.
Family:
Rodson (father – DECEASED)
Bettie (mother – DECEASED)
Pets:
a mangy, flea-bitten mutt of a dog that stuck around. Aptly called "Mutt"
History:
Eleanor’s parents were on original ship, respected (if a bit eccentric) biologists who came along interested in discovering what sort of diverse life they would encounter. She was born roughly about 20yrs after landing, and was raised with a great interest and respect for animals thanks to her animals and aspired to become a field zoologist and help her parents in their quest to study and classify the life on Pohono. Eleanor learned much from her parents though she was more physically capable than her parents and would often be sent out to do in-field observations where her parents could not. Her parents were extremely interested in the simourvs and koxi and wanted to learn all they could about these mysterious and colossal and intelligent creatures. Eleanor studied at a prestigious university in Sayaie, graduating the top of her class due to her highly competitive nature but granted her few friends. Very soon after graduating she married her university sweetheart however this arrangement was a queer one indeed: she kept her own home separate from his. This mayfly marriage ended 2 years later when her (brief) husband expressed interest in children, children being seen in Lenore's eyes as a necessity but a burden to her lifestyle and studies, she knew she would not make a good mother so she left.
Rather than seek the prestige and lucrative life a professorship path would have granted her she was far more interested in the chance and challenge of going out into this alien world and discovering all of its natural glory.
However, her parents’ passion would eventually become their downfall. They died during a koxi attack in the outskirts of Chydyn, just two more casualties to the score of people who lost their lives that day. Eleanor mourned her parents’ deaths, quickly compensating for her pain and loneliness by picking up their research with an intense ardor and eventually had to be hospitalized when she collapsed. Without any remaining family or loved ones Lenore sold her family home and nearly all of their possessions, intent on never returning to Sayaie, using the money gained from this to fuel her expeditions. She spends much of her time exploring and gathering data about Pohono.
Some years ago a ratty mutt, likely abandoned in the forest to die or a run away from a farm, found her. She grudgingly shared her food with him and from that point on he followed her. They share a strange relationship of grudging tolerance and perhaps even trust. Despite Eleanor's complaints about the "useless beast", the danger of invasive species such as dogs (don't even get her started on invasive species!), and how much food he eats one can see that she actually cares for him and the protection he provides. This biologist cannot cook and is not much of a hunter so she relies on the supplies she gathers from cities and towns, using her foraging knowledge to gather food when all else fails.
Lenore explores the lands of Pohono, researching the flora and fauna that call this planet home. She wants to know what happened to the simourv and if there could be more simourv living in on other continents.
Eleanor is currently looking for a bodyguard to travel with, her last one died after eating he wasn't supposed to (despite her warnings to him - chalk another seemingly edible vegetation under "definitely deadly.").
It should be noted that she is unsure where she stands with the Simourv riders – how can the people put their trust in a group of mere children?
((I’d like to work with someone over developing the flora and fauna of the planet and maybe eventually we can branch out into the unexplored areas?))
