Name: Azaria (A'ria) - pronounced Az-ah-rye-ah
Nickname: Az
Age: 17 (Late Fall)
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Homosexual
Rank: Candidate; Apprentice Engineer
Location: Sayaie
Personality:
Az is friendly enough, if in a quiet sort of way. He likes being around people even if he doesn't often enjoy being the center of attention. He often tries his best to keep his friends and those around him happy - even when he isn't feeling so happy himself. He is usually a warm presence unless something that has particularly distressed him has occurred. Obviously, one cannot be upbeat and happy all the time, however Az has learned to at least try to appear so - he doesn't like to make people worry after him, and he tends to feel that he should deal with his own problems. He can be quite stubborn when he sets his mind to something; when he makes a goal for himself, it's incredibly rare that he'll let it drop until it has been achieved. Occasionally, when he is flustered, he has a tendency to stammer.
Az is more-so demure than charming - of course he, like near everyone else, is given to occasional flirtations, he is fairly shy about it. This quality tends to lend him a sense of innocence and naivety - although in truth he is neither of these things. Az does, however, have a romantic streak - he is infatuated with the idea of being in love, an infatuation which has thusfar proven unlucky for him. While Az has seen his share of relationships, some longer lasting than others, none have ended particularly pleasantly for the boy. Most have been abusive in one way or another - although those that prove physically so he breaks off as quickly as possible, emotional abuse is a weakness for him. He is too willing to forgive and accept false promises in the hopes that they'll become truth - however there is only so much he can take before he finally does give up on these stubborn hopes. He isn't prone to flings, however lately he has learned to be a bit more reticent about entering into relationships.
Az became interested in his current profession in training at a fairly young age, when his mother found his grandfather's pocket watch while cleaning out their attic. The old clockwork mechanism hardly worked, and Az became enamored with the idea of fixing it. He has found that he enjoys fixing things - be it small bits of machinery like the watch, or larger scale projects, such as improving on his home-city's defenses or drainage systems. Of course, being an apprentice he is not often allowed to work first-hand on these projects - merely expected to observe and perform menial tasks for his teacher (fetch this, file that, fill out these forms, etc.) Still, he enjoys his work and hopes that his father will one day approve of it.
Az's relationship with his family is somewhat awkward at best. So far as he is aware, his older half-brother Farrian absolutely loathes him. The elder boy took issue with their father remarrying, and while he eventually came to respect and care for Az's mother and two younger siblings, he never seemed to care much for Az himself. And while his father does not share his brother's views, Az is still aware that Leif does not approve of him - of course the man would never have wanted so weak a son, a son who played at being a daughter. Az's younger siblings are closer to him, although Alden has been growing more distant as he grows older. The youngest, his sister Lily, is particularly fond of him - he spends a good deal of time with her, when he is able, and she calls him 'Aza' since she has trouble pronouncing his name.
Appearance:
At a passing glance, it would be very easy to mistake Azaria for a young lady. He stands on the shorter side of average at 5'7", and possesses a lithe and slender build - willowy, if anything else. He is not very muscular - a spare bit of definition can be seen about his shoulders and forearms, but otherwise he appears very smooth. His hair is worn long, falling to just below his shoulder-blades, and is a particularly pale shade of blonde. Az is similarly pale, however not unhealthily so; still, he sunburns fairly easily and does not tan much at all.
Az takes after his mother in looks. His facial features are particularly delicate - high cheekbones, subtly rounded cheeks, and a long narrow nose. His eyes are a stormy blue-gray color, almond-shaped and wide with somewhat thick brows above. His lips are what one might describe as 'pouty' - full, and a perfect cupid's bow.
There are no real noticeable scars or marks on the boy. A faded scar can be found on his right leg from where it was scraped during a fall as a child. A spare handful of small knicks can be found across his hands and forearms - although they are so faded as to be nearly invisible.
Az tends to wear fairly earthy colors - for all that he enjoys color, it simply isn't practical for everyday life where it is likely to get dirtied or torn. He does, however, own a few pieces of vibrantly colored clothing - his favorite is a tunic dyed a deep violet with bits of polished iridescent shell sewn about hem, sleeves, and collar (which cost him a pretty penny, but it was a luxury he felt deserved). Generally, however, Az wears a mix of earthy browns, creams, and foresty greens. He owns one pair of boots that have become somewhat scuffed from wear, however he tries to keep them polished when he is able - often, when heavy footwear is not necessary, he prefers to wear light sandals instead. Az owns a few pieces of jewelry - a delicate chain pendant that his mother gave him, a handful of other necklaces and rings gifted from others. He also owns a pocket watch, a trinket he found amidst boxes of old junk in his family's attic - a keepsake of his father's father brought from the drop-ship; it doesn't keep time very well anymore, however much Az works to fix the time - it always seems to fall a bit behind.

History:
At the age of 24, Leif married his first wife Iathe - a full-figured, buxom woman, raven-haired with an easy laugh and warm brown eyes. The two had both been born in the outskirts of Sayaie, and intended to grow old together there, amidst the farmland. They built a small home for themselves and tended a small plot of farmland. A year later things seemed to be going grandly - Iathe bore Leif a son, Farrian - and life went on. However, only two years later tragedy struck - while Leif was away with Farrian in the city, a small koxi stole onto their farmstead and slaughtered their livestock, destroyed their home, and killed Iathe. Leif returned to the carnage and was distraught with grief. He took his son and left the countryside and all its memories and moved into the city proper.
It was in the city itself, working as a blacksmith, that Leif met a lovely young woman by the name of Calla. The opposite of Iathe in near every way - willowy and pale, shy, but still warm - Leif found himself attracted to her, and found comfort in her embrace. A little over a year after the death of Iathe, Calla bore Leif another son - a beautiful boy with the same pale skin and hair as his mother. Calla named the child Azaria and cared for the child on her own for nearly three years before Leif finally asked her to marry him - Calla agreed, and she and young Azaria joined Leif and Farrian's household. Farrian didn't take well to Calla at first - he still remembered, if vaguely, his mother's voice and scent, and he remembered how his father had mourned and loved her. He did not care for this replacement, and he cared less for the child that seemed to be the reason for it.
Growing up, Azaria was often bullied by his brother, picked on for his pallor and his looks. He spent more time inside than with children of his own age, and took some small measure of comfort in assisting his mother with household chores. Over time, while Farrian grew to respect his step-mother, he continued to treat Azaria with a general disdain - however as he grew older that disdain shifted from rough-housing to simply choosing to ignore the younger boy. Life went on, and when Azaria was six years old his mother gave birth to yet another son, Alden - the new child took after his father in appearance, with thick dark hair and eyes. Azaria was intrigued with the new baby, although with much of her time spent caring for the child, Calla had less time for Azaria himself. Still, the boy spent much of his time helping with chores around the house, although he did begin to go out in his free time to play with other children.
When Azaria was 12, his father encouraged him to find a vocation - Farrian had chosen to follow in his father's footsteps as a blacksmith, however Azaria's slight frame made following the family example seem ill-advised. However, the young boy showed an interest in machinery after he had found his grandfather's pocket watch amidst his father's old things, and with a bit of grumbling on Leif's part, he was apprenticed to an engineer. This new job took up much of Azaria's time, leaving him little time with his family - Alden grew more distant now that his older brother was not around as often. The trek between his home and the workshop of his mentor, however, gave him ample chance to meet a variety of new faces.
A year after Azaria began his apprenticeship, Calla bore yet another child - this time a daughter, Lily. Azaria spent much of his time, when he was at home, playing with and caring for the child. It was also in this year that he began to realize that he found other boys - older, usually - attractive. He spent a year and a half trying to deny this before he finally gave up the endeavor and began to date - still, he tried to hide this fact from his parents for as long as he was able. His mother was the first to catch on, and while it confused her a bit, she was happy if he was happy. When his father learned, however, the man was furious. Azaria spent nearly a week away from home, hiding from his father's ire. He was forced to return home, however - he had nowhere to stay for more than a night or two and he truly didn't want to leave his family. While the brief time away earned him some respite from his father - as well as a large amount of worry from his mother - after the 'runaway' incident Leif became slightly more distant from his strange son, and Farrian became more spiteful.
It has been roughly three years since then, and Azaria's relationship with his father and older brother is still a bit strained. While he cherishes the time he is able to spend with young Lily - he brings her gifts of small trinkets and flowers nearly daily - he has come to spend more and more time away from home. He stays with his mentor, or with friends and lovers, only returning to his family's home late in the day so that he needs not interact much with Farrian, and needs not withstand his father's disappointment. Sometimes he dreams of leaving the city, going somewhere far away - perhaps Itnala or Chydyn - and making a new life for himself. Starting fresh; but he discards these ideas quickly more often than not, as he would miss his family too much.
Desired Color: Tawny, Green, Rainbow
Undesired Color: Blue
Reasoning: I already have 3 blues, and would kinda like something not-blue. Also, given his personality and preferences, I don't see a red or a black choosing him - 'though if the powers that be see one of those in the cards for him, I'm cool with that. I'd also kinda like to see a male tawny-rider at some point - I understand that it is incredibly rare, 'though (as rare as a female red-rider). A green is probably the most likely, and I'm cool with that too - I like greens, they all have such variable personalities. A rainbow could be cute, something upbeat and chatty to bring him out of his shell.
Injury/Mauling: Maul away, he could use a few more scars.
