Name: R'lyeh (Romallyeh)
Age: 17, Summer
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Bisexual, but with strong asexual tendencies.
Rank: Winglet, Charlie class
Hometown: Itnala
Personality:
Romallyeh is a quiet girl, she doesn't speak often unless she feels it is important - she prefers actions over words. When she can, she tends to keep to herself; she seems to prefer time to herself and tends to withdraw from social situations. This is not to say that Roma is shy - she is not timid or easily frightened, nor is she easily flustered. She tends to keep an outwardly cool appearance and is not one to panic during a crisis - internally, however, she is not quite so cool as her calm facade would suggest. While Roma might appear outwardly calm, internally she is always in motion, always thinking. She likes to figure out how things work - machinery, the world around her, living bodies. Perhaps, had she been raised into it she might have studied as a healer or a surgeon - however, as things stand she has not been formally trained in any profession. Her grandfather, Albus, has taught her what he knows of the world around them, however, and more often than not she feels that this knowledge has more worth than that which could be learned more conventionally. She has a tendency to take things apart and then puzzle through piecing them back together, and she seems to enjoy spending time with her nose buried in a book.
When pressed, Romallyeh can show a sharp temper, and is sometimes prone to violent outbursts. It is difficult to tell when she might snap, given her tendency toward keeping to herself - she does not announce her temper, but simply lashes out at the object of her ire. She does not know, formally, how to fight, and in those instances where she is goaded to lash out physically she fights like a cornered beast - all blind instinct and little strategy. For her tendency to overthink things, when it comes to physical combat she shows a degree of spontaneity - she seems to turn off that part of herself which needs to think and plan, and instead she only reacts.
Roma tends to view other people as being an alien species - she does not understand them, not wholly, their motives elude her. Toward her family she has a different sort of view. They are, obviously, like her - being the people whom she grew up with. Up until recently, she lived with both her grandfather Albus and her twin sister, Rhantelle. She adored her sister, and the two were rarely separated since childhood - Rhantelle was more social than her sister, and would often speak for her. But Rhantelle died, and since Roma has fallen into an even quieter existence. She is forced to do things for herself, and while she has little issue with doing so, she does not enjoy it. Toward her grandfather she feels a sort of love-hate; he is her only living family, her teacher and her father-figure. She respects him, because to her he seems to know everything that is important, everything that deserves knowing. However a part of her wishes to rebel; she doesn't care for his strict ideals, his numerous rules, his seeming desire that she grow to be exactly as he is, to take his place when he dies - particularly given he refuses to tell her exactly what that place is. He is an eccentric old man, and under his tutelage she has grown into an eccentric young woman.
Appearance:
At 5'10", Romallyeh is tall for a woman, with a lanky, wiry-muscled build. At a glance, she can easily be mistaken for a boy, with her broad shoulders and small breasts. Her build is streamlined - a swimmer's build, or a runner's - nearly all whipcord muscle and bone; some fisherfolk have even gone so far as to call her appearance ghoulish. While not exactly ugly, Roma isn't a conventional beauty, and her habits do tend to lend to her 'ghoulish' appearance. Her cheekbones are high and prominent, giving the cheeks below a slightly hollow appearance, and the hollows of her eyes are deep and often ringed with bruise-dark circles speaking of her general nocturnal preferences and lack of decent sleep. Roma's hair is a dark brown, nearly but not quite black, and is roughly cut, the longest oft-tangled strands falling just below her shoulders. Her skin is very pale, despite her coastal surroundings - she does not seem to tan, but rather sunburns fairly easily. Her eyes are a dark, mossy green - the green pigment can generally only be seen in certain lighting, and often her eyes are mistaken for being brown. Her hands seem almost disproportionately large for her body, with long spidery fingers, and her wrists are very narrow.
Romallyeh does little to improve upon her androgynous image, and seems to be happy enough passing for a boy. She tends to dress in the plain breeks and shirts, and occasionally gathers up her hair in a battered leather cap. She doesn't seem to care overly much for her physical appearance, and can often be seen with smudges of dirt and grime on her cheeks, across the bridge of her nose, or upon her forehead. Her hair is generally fairly messy, and given her inclination toward swimming, often slicked back in a tangled mess upon her neck. She smells primarily of sea-salt, and also faintly of aromatic cloves. Romallyeh occasionally chooses to wear trinkets, bits of shell and wave-borne debris strung upon lengths of twine, and also carries a pair of knives - one, a hunting blade used for gutting fish, and the other a decorative piece; illegible sigils carved into a large chunk of sharpened tooth or bone - a gift imparted upon her by the mother ocean in the form of a bloated behemoth, a 'sea monster' (a drowned and much gnawed upon koxi carcass that was found washed upon the shore).

History:
Being among the first generation of settlers born on Pohonan soil, Albus has lived a long, full life. While originally he and his parents lived in Sayaie, when the expedition left in year 26 to found a new settlement, Itnala, The 25 year-old Albus, his young wife Mina, and their newborn daughter Catherine left with it, thinking to make a new life for themselves. The young family settled at the far edge of the village, near to a cliff-face, and watched the growing village rise around them. Sadly, a handful of years after settling Mina was struck ill and wasted away during the winter, leaving Albus to care for his young daughter. Albus was ill-suited to the task, having little time to mourn his wife and take care of the child - he was often too strict toward her, and Catherine grew rebellious. Catherine's belly grew large with child at the young age of 15, and she gave birth to twin girls only to fall ill from blood loss shortly after. Catherine did not have a chance to name her daughters before she died, and instead her father Albus was left with the task of naming the girls. He called the first born Romallyeh and the second Rhantelle.
At the age of 40, Albus had a somewhat better idea of how to care for these new children; and while mourning still, the loss of Catherine to these new, bright lives was not so great a burden to bear as the loss of his wife had been. He saw the twins as a second chance to raise a daughter - no, daughters - to mold them into proper heiresses to his hard-earned home.
The twins were inseparable since birth, and while their life was not easy, they were happy enough with it so long as they had each other. They spoke to each other before they spoke to Albus, in a language all their own, and they resorted to it time and again - a secret code that not even their caretaker could decipher. Rhantelle was always more extroverted than her sister, a charming girl who asked innumerable questions - still, Romallyeh listened to her sister's questions, and then to their answers, and often pulled slightly ahead of her sibling in their studies under Albus' tutelage. At a young age, their studies were fairly basic - how to read and write, simple mathematics, how to mend clothes, how to prepare meals - as they grew older, however, their studies turned to more esoteric interest. Being born only a year after landing, Albus had become at the least vaguely acquainted with some of the machinery used by the settlers before it had failed them. He taught the girls of this, showing them a handful of worn down clockwork trinkets that he had procured in his youth in Sayaie - how to take them apart and put them back together, how to fix them when they ceased ticking. He also showed the girls how this knowledge might be put to use on the carcasses of fish and game, how to cleanly take apart a body, which organs were vital and which were for the skillet, what they were called and what they did. While Rhantelle wasn't as interested in this subject matter, Romallyeh found it vastly more intriguing than arithmetic and mending dresses.
Tragedy struck the family again, however, as at the age of 14 Rhantelle died. The specifics of her death were uncertain, however it was assumed that she climbed and fell from the nearby cliffs, only to drown in the frigid waters below. Her body was found with the morning tide, broken and washed upon the shore. Romallyeh did not cry when she discovered the corpse, she simply stared a long while and then withdrew in silence - mourning in her own way. Albus cried, however, and the old man spent nearly a week in a black mood, mourning Rhantelle's death. Romallyeh spent the days after her sister's death in nearly utter silence, roaming the shoreline in her wakeful hours and picking at the washed up detritus. It was barely a handful of days after her sister's corpse was found washed upon the shore when another, much larger corpse was discovered. Roma was the first to find the thing, a monster, a bloated leviathan reeking and rotting on the sands. The monstrous corpse, a drowned and much gnawed upon xymokoxi, crawled with crabs and scavengers. So soon after Rhantelle's death, Romallyeh saw shades of her sister in the grotesque beast, and she set upon the ragged carcass before any of the other fisherfolk could arrive to deal with the disturbing find. She managed to pry out one of the creature's teeth, keeping it as a token, a gift to her from the Mother Sea who took her sister.
Since Rhantelle's death, Romallyeh lead a fairly quiet existence - she eventually worked out of her period of utter silence, but still she did not speak much. She took a more avid interest in her studies, once Albus similarly finished mourning, and read and reread the few books her grandfather owned time and again, so often that the ink had worn away in some places. As grandfather grew older still, Roma began to take up his daily chores - while they lived in Itnala, none in her family had been fisherfolk since Mina's death. Instead Albus had scavenged the shoreline, bringing back clams and shells washed upon the shore, or fish and aquatic creatures left stranded in tidepools. And now, Romallyeh scavenged those same shores, bringing the gifts of the Mother Sea back with her. Albus instilled within his grand-daughter an almost fearful reverence for the sea - personifying it as the mother of all life, but one who might take it away as well (just as She had with Rhantelle). Some of his ancient, worn books even seemed to mirror this idea, treatises on evolution, spare notes scrawled in the corners on the lifeforms native to the planet in relation to the ancient (in her opinion) Earth science.
In the most recent past, Albus has grown more and more strict toward his remaining grand-daughter, and this tightened reign upon her life has begun to chafe. She cannot imagine leaving her grandfather, leaving the aged salt-worn wood and stone of her home, but the growing pressure to fully take over Albus' responsibilities is running her ragged.
