Name: Taridan (T'dan)
Age: 18 (start of winter)
Gender: male
Sexuality: heterosexual
Rank: Candidate, Apprentice
Location: Sayaie
Personality: (309 words)
Taridan is a conflicted soul. Born an energetic troublemaker he got into all the sorts of things that boys were supposed to. He was relaxed and fun to be around and found himself with two really good friends that he'd go play with. He is loyal to his friends, and more than willing to stand up for them if they won't do it themselves. This was the main reason he would get into fights as a kid, since his one friend was rather skinny and a bit of a nerd. With the birth of his sister, his personality took a slight shift. No longer was he the center of attention. Now his parents wanted him to behave and set a good example and for a while he resented his sister for her interrupting his life. Gradually he learned to love his sister and as he aged he took on some of the responsibilities that an older brother should have. When his world was once again twisted, this time by his grandparents death his personality changed slightly as well.
What had been caring and concern for his sister remained but it was darkened by hints of obsession and possessiveness. Normally, Taridan can act like a normal protective older brother around her, the kind of brother who puts up with his sibling because he has to. It's only when they're around others, and more particularly boys his sisters age that his emotions start to leak out, leading Tijera to call her brother a jerk on many occasions. What shows as warm and caring when he is alone with her mutates into bossy, demanding, and sometimes cruel words and actions though they are usually aimed more at those around them than at his sister. Still, he would rather have Tijera made at him or crying because of what he did than risk her getting hurt. If that means he has to be a jerk sometimes, so be it. He's her older brother. He knows whats best for her.
When he's not around his sister he's your typical average guy. He and his friends hang out and if they do create trouble they try to avoid getting caught at it. He can be sensitive and compassionate towards others but it is easier for him to let that side show in private with his really good friends and family. With strangers he often gives off suspicious or wary vibes because he doesn't trust easily.
Appearance: (214 words)
Taridan has eyes that are undecided upon their color. The best explanation for them would be to call them Hazel but with hints of blue, gray, green and light brown calling them hazel just doesn't do them justice. His hair is a nice medium shade of brown that gets hints of auburn to it if its exposed to the sun for long periods of time. It is also prone to curling if it lets it grow more than three or four inches long, which is why you'll pretty much never see him with longer styles of hair. Standing around five feet ten inches tall he's not overly large or imposing but working with wood most of his life has left him with strong muscles in his arms, chest and back. He's not bulky, but he is trim and in good shape. His right hand has a variety of scars on it from accidental cuts while woodworking when he was younger. He has a varied wardrobe and a good three pairs of lumberjack type boots. Most of his clothes are more natural in color as he doesn't want flashy way out there colors like bright purple or neon yellow. Tans, creams, browns, grays, black, blue and green are the majority of the colors he wears.

Does a little sister count?
History:
To tell the history of Taridan we first need to look at the past, beyond his own birth. Both of his grandfathers knew each other before the trip to the new world. Relken and Trampton were business partners and the best of friends. Both had managed to find the loves of their lives and in an effort to have their business be appreciated for the skill that was put into it and to try and give any future children they might have space to grow and countryside to play in, they sold their store (getting a premium amount for it since the store was only on the second floor of the building, rather than higher up) and signed into the ship named Emily as laborers to arrive upon the planet in their mid-twenties. Taking their young brides, they started a new life. At first things were going well for them. There was an abundance of raw materials and pleased they set up shop again and started building homes and cabinets, tables and chairs. They were wood workers, skilled craftmen who could build just about anything, so long as it was made of wood. Relken was the logistics guy, the one who calculated how much raw material would be needed for the desired result, while Trampton was the artist of the two. Both could make a chair, but if they wanted to make money off of it Trampton was the one who would carve elaborate designs into the legs and back.
Now lets speak of their brides. Nurah, Relkens wife, was the youngest of the group, being a mere eighteen when the planetary transfer was made. She was a good housewife and loved cleaning, cooking and generally making her house into a home she could be proud of. She had come from a rough background, (emancipated minor living on the streets) and the peaceful sense of bliss that she could get from spotless floors, from dinner plates that weren't chipped or broken in half was all she had ever wanted. She had moved up in the world when Relken had rescued her and married her, and she was content. Vicci, Tramptons wife, had just turned twent one when they made the move, and like he, she was artistic though her skill lay outside in the herb and flower gardens she so carefully tended. She was good at decorating the homes that her husband and his partner built, but she was great at growing plants.
Both couples had moved to Chydyn in year Three due to the excellent supply of wood there and the extra cost they were having to pay to have the cut lumber shipped down. In year six Nurah got pregnant and gave birth to Auberon. Two years later Vicci also gave birth, only it was to a girl she named Nakasha. These two would end up being Taridan's parents. They grew up together, with Auberon learning all he could about the wood working from both of his fathers. Nakasha worked part time with some of the local healers, helping them with their gardens as she seemed to inherit the green thumb her mother had. In year twenty six Auberon and Nakasha moved to Itnala only to find their world turned upside down by the horrific violence. Relken and Nurah had come with them to help them move into their new house. Three of them survived, though Auberon received multiple bruises and some strained muscles as he managed to get away without actually being hit. The bruises were from when he had ducked and rolled to avoid a swipe aimed at his head. His father wasn't so lucky. Relken died before the guards could show up. Auberon was twenty and Nakasha was eighteen, and after a serious discussion they both agreed to wait on having children. They were thankful for the simourvs saving them, but unsure if the creatures could be depended upon for further protection and cast into a daze of mourning Relkens death. Due to this, they held off on having children.
It wasn't until year Forty that Taridan was born at the beginning of winter. He was a finicky baby, waking everyone up in the middle of the night for no apparent reason as he didn't need to be changed, refused food and had no burb bubbles stuck. Finally, in an effort to get some sleep, Trampton recalled rocking chairs from their old world, and with Auberons help, the two built one. Then, whenever Taridan woke up all whining, either one of his grandma's or his momma would sit and rock him back to sleep. As a toddler he enjoyed trying to escape the house, and didn't understand why his momma was so upset the one time he succeeded and walked halfway down towards the beach where his daddy and grandpa were working on building a boat. He didn't understand at that age what death was or Koxi. All he knew was that he had made his momma cry. By the time he was five he had shown an interest in learning, staring at the world through intense hazel eyes that couldn't decide if they should be brown or green. Determined to give their son the best in life, the family moved back to Sayaie so that he could go to what remained of the school systems. They wanted him to learn all that he could. It was in this year that his baby sister was born and Taridan was no longer the center of his family's attention.
Taridan did fairly well in school though every once in a while he would be scolded for getting into fights. He had two close friends and one of them was a skinny short guy that some of the class bullies liked to pick on. It was in standing up for him and helping him out that Taridan got into trouble for fighting. Once he got home from school, he would often work on his wood carving skills while his grandma cooked dinner. He obtained several scars on his right hand from the carving knife slipping. Oddly enough, being left handed was a trait fairly common in his family.
When he was eight and his sister was three he decided he wanted to carve some board game pieces for his grandmother Nurah for her birthing day and since Vicci said she needed fresh ingredients for the cake they all went to the edge of town to gather supplies. Relken took the day off from work, leaving the shop in the hands of his son while he escorted Vicci, Tijera and Taridan. Nurah stayed home since the things they were doing were going to be for her birthday, and a surprise. They were surprised all right, but not in a good way as one stray Koxi found the group and attacked. Screamed at to run, Taridan grabbed his sister and bolted back into town while the guards rushed over to try and fend the Koxi off. His grandmother was quickly killed and his grandfather... not nearly as quickly disemboweled and dragged away to be eaten. They survived and as dusk approached his grandmother returned to the house (She had been visiting a friend) and his parents came home from work. Taridan was unable to explain what happened, being rather traumatized at the time and it wasn't until the guards came to inform his parents of the death that they understood. The yelling and screaming and wailing of his parents and grandma Nurahkept him awake all that night. What was left of the bodies was brought back for a burial.
After that, Taridan stopped getting into fights. The young boy was traumatized, and became quite over protective of his sister. She was too young to remember, he was too old to forget. He became quieter, less exuberant and more stubborn to learn how to fight those monsters. Unfortunately there wasn't really anyone around that could teach him much about that sort of thing, and it was a constant weight on his shoulders, almost an obsession. Gradually, as the years past he finished with the school stuff and started working full time for his father in the wood crafting store. He had a knack for carving dark and dismal designs hidden behind swirls and other forms of lines. What surprised both him and his father more though, was that once people saw the darkness hidden behind the prettier distractions, they liked it. Taridan had a few regular customers that would come back and request things with his decorations on them. Auberon liked to say that he didn't trust those customers who liked the hidden death and destruction, while his son silently sat there and wondered if that meant his father didn't trust him either... He hadn't done anything to prevent his grandparents deaths, and he was the one with this darkness hidden inside.
Desired Color: Tawny or Blue
Undesired Color: Red or Green
Reasoning:
Tawny because it says they are "They're sweethearts, soft and mild as could be... prone to mothering" Taridan is quite protective of his little sister which should blend well the tawny's mothering instincts. He's also an over all nice guy, not inclined to fight unless he has to for the protection of what he loves. Plus it'd be fun to see the stunned looks on everyones faces, and then the stunned look on Taridans face once he realizes that means his simourv might be flown by one with a male rider.
Blue because they are calm. A blue could probably help calm some of Taridans inner emotional issues about the death of his grandparents.
Injury/Mauling: I'd be okay with something attacking his leg and giving him a limp, or maybe biting off a finger... He could also get a facial scar or some of his hair pulled out. I'd prefer no broken bones or debilitating maiming.
