Okay, so now I'm only 80% blind. ...Somehow this does not seem like a vast improvement.
Name: Erunei (Er’nei)
Age: 17, born at the end of fall/beginning of winter
Gender: female
Sexuality: asexual, but in denial; she tells herself she’s bisexual, and other people that she’s bisexual or straight, depending on how she expects them to react.
Rank: candidate, previously an artist
Location: she travels between cities every three to four months with a caravan; currently she’s in Sayaie, getting ready to leave for Chydyn.
Personality:
Erunei tries to act reserved and calm, and often succeeds, but in reality she’s mostly shy and self-conscious. She will also have occasional moments where she will drop the reserved mask, generally either when she’s very angry, or if she’s in a very good mood. This generally also requires her to have been awake for over a day, or working on a very detailed painting for several hours, since she will lean in extremely close to the painting and the paint’s fumes will affect her. It’s more common for her to drop the reservation for anger than a good mood, but both tend to shock or at least confuse anyone who encounters them.
Erunei is very introverted and will generally avoid people if she has even the slightest chance to do so, particularly when painting. She can interact with people, and has had to enough that she generally can do so very well, but she runs out of energy quickly, and if she spends too much time around people she will stop talking almost entirely, partly because she’s tired and partly because she resents having to deal with people.
Erunei also has a very strong temper, but developed enough patience when dealing with her siblings that it rarely shows; she occasionally will express a cold kind of anger, which is most recognizable as she tends to adopt a somewhat superior expression, and very rarely will express the open anger mentioned earlier. She can be both very stubborn and proud, and while she will occasionally acknowledge that she can be both too stubborn and too proud for her own good, she rarely if ever changes her behavior. She can also have a limited superiority complex; it shows mostly when she is angry, but will occasionally emerge when she is in a situation or on a topic that she believes herself to know more around than those around her; proving her wrong in these situations will not often get a visible reaction, but will often shake her confidence and lead to her being noticeably more reserved than usual. She never backs down from anything she perceives as a challenge, since challenges trigger her stubbornness, pride, and superiority complex; she is willing to sacrifice anything necessary to win.
Also, she gets hypnotized by pretty things very easily.
Appearance:
Erunei is slightly short, around 5’3”, but rarely stands up completely straight and so looks shorter than she is. She has gray eyes and her hair is reddish blond, very long and generally tucked under a hat to keep it out of the way. She is very thin, bordering on unhealthy, mostly because her food is limited regularly enough that she has never developed a large appetite, though she will eat much more if she gets a favorite food. She is naturally pale, but in the summer and beginning of fall will be lightly tanned along the lines of whatever she wore the first day she got a sunburn that year. She pays very little attention to her appearance, so her clothes tend to be loose, old and worn, and in darker colors. She goes barefoot whenever she can. She does not bother with her nails or skin, so she has a few noticeable if fading scars from callouses, and all her nails are either trimmed short, if they broke, tore, or got long enough to get in the way, or are as long as they grow to since the last time one of the previous three occurred. She is coordinated and spatially aware, but tends to spend all her time focused on either art or getting away from people, so she often bumps into things or people and seems to be clumsy; her coordination only shows when she is actively focusing on something physical.
Family:
Father: Yetnis, living, 42
Mother: Reida, died in childbirth, would be 39
Siblings: Taren and Naret, twin brothers, 14; Siena, sister, 13; Ember, brother, 5.
Pets:
none
History:
Erunei’s mother came from one of the farms outside Sayaie, and her father came from Itnala; his family were builders/architects. Her mother’s family was rigidly sexist, while her father’s family was not. When Erunei was 9, her father sent her to live with friends of his in Sayaie to study and to keep her away from her mother’s family’s sexism. During that time she developed art as a hobby, but was also treated as an outsider by some of her peers since she was from outside Sayaie and didn’t live with her family; due to this she also became very quiet and shy. Her siblings were supposed to go at the same age, but their mother insisted on teaching them at home for a few more years first. When Erunei was 12 her mother died giving birth to her youngest brother Ember, and Erunei went home to take care of her siblings.
Her father attempted to help so that she wouldn’t have more responsibility than he thought she should, but mainly tried to help by sending her and her siblings to stay with relatives, most of the time her mother’s family as they lived much closer than her father’s. Her mother’s family continued to teach her and her siblings gender roles, and while her siblings went along with it and started believing it, Erunei clung to her school years and instead became bitter, frustrated and angry. She began to spend all the time she could drawing and painting, as a way of expressing her frustration that wouldn’t get her in trouble. Her father and father’s family encouraged her, and tried to counter her mother’s family’s beliefs by teaching her and her siblings to be proud of their family and heritage; this made Erunei shift from simply being shy to covering the shyness with a cool, reserved attitude.
This continued until Erunei was fifteen, when a caravan came through and one of the traders saw some of her artwork and paid her to paint a scene of the caravan reaching the town. Erunei kept the sale and money secret from her family, and spent more time on painting and drawing, as well as time forcing herself to talk to people, and making it into a challenge to see how much she could get people to like her. Just after her sixteenth birthday another caravan came through, and the leader, a friend of the leader from the first caravan, bought a similar drawing from her. Erunei waited until a third caravan came through in mid spring and left with them, without telling anyone except her younger sister that she was leaving. Since then she has been alternately looking for work in cities and traveling from one to another with various caravans. Most of her work is art, generally portraits or scenes for weddings, engagements, and similar events, but she has also worked for people doing various other things (cooking, sewing, etc.) when she is unable to make enough money on art alone.
Since Erunei first was relatively isolated on a farm outside Sayaie, then after she left did her best not to interact with people outside of work, she doesn’t know much about the riders, mostly that they exist, approximately what simourvs look like, that they kill koxi, and that there’s something special that happens at hatching, when riders are paired with simourvs. Beyond that she knows basically nothing about the riders, the Eyrie, or simourvs. Her mind will also jump from seeing a simourv to remembering koxi attacks relatively easily if she isn't focused on something else.
Desired Color: blue
Undesired Color: none
Reasoning: Uh... because Winged and Sakky say so? And she doesn't seem to fit anything else.
(Former colors and reasoning: Red: Yes, I know this is exceedingly unlikely already; I toy around with much more bizarre ideas than this in my head just for the entertainment value. But, Erunei is very stubborn when not completely thrown off, and spent several years raising two brothers who were being taught to have many red traits, particularly the masculinity and arrogance. She also has a very strong temper of her own that she is used to coping with, and some suppressed issues with gender and gender roles that would interact interestingly with a red's hypermasculinity. Tawny: the description says that tawnies tend to pick riders who have issues that they need help dealing with. Erunei is good at hiding and coping with most of her issues but she very definitely has them, and likely won't do anything about any of them unless something forces her to.)
Injury/Mauling: Anything would be interesting, but anything that would keep her in bed or unable to do much for very long would limit interaction a lot. It could be interesting if she’s badly injured and not chosen, since she’d probably use the injury in a way to try to hide from people as long as she could. She'd have a fit if her hands or eyes were injured though, since it would limit her ability to draw and paint.
